Imprints
Imprints is an interactive art installation that invites visitors to create personalized artwork from their fingerprints. As participants place their finger on a specialized scanner, custom software analyzes the unique patterns and whorls of their fingerprint, transforming this biometric data into a one-of-a-kind digital artwork.
The algorithm interprets the ridge patterns, minutiae points, and overall structure of the fingerprint, using these as parameters to generate abstract visual compositions. Each fingerprint produces a completely unique artwork, reflecting the individuality of each participant.
The installation speaks to themes of identity, privacy, and the intersection of biology and technology. While fingerprints are often associated with surveillance and identification systems, Imprints reimagines them as a source of creative expression and beauty.
The installation was exhibited at Simulacrum in October 2024, Amsterdam, where visitors engaged with the work and created their personalized fingerprint artwork.
